ADHITI DEVO BHAV ??

By now everyone of you must have seen Aamir khan giving 'gyaan' to a 'tapori' in the tourism ministry ads. The 'issued in public interest' ad signs off with 'Athithi devo bhava',  a sanskrit qoute if you may call it. Right from school days irrespective of wether public, private, village or an international school, each of us have been thought to respect the guests. Athithi devo bhava translates to guests are like gods. We are all proud of our country and culture,we are ready to die for it as well as kill to prove it. But in the face of few extra bucks we often forget the little gems that our culture has thought us. Right from the auto wallah to a shopkeeper, moment they spot a tourist they prepare a grand 'scheme' to rip off the hapless tourists. The people at the recieving end are mostly the 'firangs' because well we INDIANS ARE VERY SMART afteral. The logic behind this basically is unke paas jyada hi paisa he, dollar mein kamake, yoga karne aate hein vahan se yahan, thoda paisa udaya to kya farakh padta he? Problem is farakh padta he.. Foriegn tourists at every tourist location from dal lake to gods own country are cheated and abused. The greed to make a profit forces the service provider of a tourist be it guides, driver even a shopkeeper give them a long bill for small service given. From selling a cheap 20 rupees item at more than 500 percent profit to guides making shoddy deals with hotel owners and drivers of cabs and autos charging more for short distances.  This creates a very negative impact on the tourism industry which runs on the money generated by these very tourists in the long run. Though all the funny videos posted on facebook may show otherwise, firangs are not stupid. The bad experiance they face sometimes to the point of humiliation will drive them away and as they recollect their India experiance to others, the next firang with a fat pocket will think twice before stepping to the land of exotica that we are so proud of. There are no laws of iron claws that protect the tourists in india. This makes us fearless against foriengn tourists who do not know the law of the land. The misstreatment given is not just in form of money. Its a deep rooted evil in india, we like anything fair ( fairness cream industry thrives here for the same reason ) we stare and ogle at them to the point of being very embarrassing and cheap, not just the whites we stare at any exposed skin of any colour. Women tourists face this bad experiance each and every day in india, off late even case of rape and abuse are being reported frequently, We are supposedly people who worship women as god, tourists as god but in practise we are complete opposite. I know we are from land of kamasutra but seriously control the emotions people, be respectfull sane and mature. Our actions reflects on the nations image. Do we need india to be reflected as a land of thieves, rapists, conmen, cheats and lusty staring 50 year old balding men? We need to CHANGE, We need a PARIVARTHAN, for a better INDIA!
